The World in 2260 - REDUX by wolfmoon25 The World in 2260 - REDUX by wolfmoon25

I have spent the last two days on this project, a futuristic, ENTIRELY FICTIONAL depiction on the status of the world in the year 2260. Could be a good concept for a video game series, like 'Call of Duty,' 'Age of Empires,' or others in the war, science fiction or strategy genres. This is officially a brand-new, redone work with an even-more detailed map template, and a larger size for better viewing. This is an in-depth description of the international climate in this universe. Read descriptions before you ask any questions.

Regarding the background behind the map, about 250 years have passed, and much has changed, though at the same time old ways have returned. The depopulation trends seen and felt throughout the 21st century had ended over a hundred years ago, and thus the opposite has come and populations are rising more than ever. Environmental movements given strength by the international political and philosophical crackdown on neo-liberalism have halted global warming, though climates are still recovering. Space travel technology has accelerated to the point where manned ships go at least four times the speed of light, and developed powers have established military units into place beyond the atmosphere. The militaries of the world still run on legions of manpower, like they have been for millennia, but use heavy robotics, hyperspeed supersonic aircraft, cyberkinetic implants and equipment, and the use of plasma weapons had been introduced to the battlefield some 40 years ago (2218 provided the first accounts). Corporations and banking cartels have lost their influence upon governments worldwide and thus have become thoroughly nationalized by the states using their business. They are merely companies for revenue, nothing more. Religions have remained more of the same, though secularism is the undisputed method of cultural thought, and certain ancient religions have emerged from the grave. The United Nations, going through decades of turmoil and bureaucratic obsoleteness, has long collapsed and faded into history. As such, the world has seen some massive political reorganization, and control of the world is divided amongst the Group of Eight Sovereigns:

1) NASO (North American Supervisory Organization, led by the United States [Navy Blue], and their Allies [Cyan]):

The leader of the free and democratic world, and the most influential and dominant of the Group of Eight Sovereigns. They have an expansive international presence, whether through economics or military might. They are home to several internationally acclaimed research firms and educational institutions, as well as business organizations. NASO supports the highest degree of free speech and freedom of religion in the world, and is officially multicultural, housing several recognized languages besides English, the official language. The rate of crime is low amongst the most developed members, due to relaxed self-defence laws and low corruption rate. They sport some of the highest GPDs in the world, and show no sign of slowing down. They are friendly allies and trading partners to the European Union (EU) and the Non-Aligned Committee (NAC); hold an arms-length, neutral view towards the Grand Western Caliphate (GWC) and the United African Chiefdoms (UAC); and enemies toward the Central Axis Powers (CAP), Comniform, and the East Asian Socialist Union (EASU).

2) Central Axis Powers (The Greater German Kingdom, Dominion of Osmanatolia, and Imperial Shogunate of Japan [Orange] and their Satellite States [Yellow]):

The second most prominent economic, political and military power in the world, holding control of much of Asia and Europe and contests with the other Sovereigns on a constant basis. Unlike the Keynesian capitalist West or the true communist powers, this group applies the use of a unique, rigid blend of 50/50 capitalist and socialist economics, with great attempts of achieving no compromise or misbalance. This alliance shares the characteristic of having re-established the tradition of absolutist monarchies for sole governance. They also share cultural or religious homogenies, though merely of natural accumulation, not by persecution or forced assimilation. The Germans come together for national unity and living space, the Turks take control for Islamic unity and stability for counterweight against their Soviet neighbours (some military aggression was involved particularly with Iran), and the Japanese for establishing a firm rising sun upon the Western Pacific. Despite having Christian, Muslim or Buddhist majorities, freedom of religion is a right much like the West. In fact, the German monarchial traditions are influenced by resurgent Germanic Paganism, and the divine respect for the Emperor of Japan has returned in full force, though the Shogun holds true power. The Turks hold together their empire by Muslim communitarianism, and the preservation of secularized Islamic political and sociocultural traditions.

Unlike Comniform, the European Union and NASO, the CAP have established satellite states in their image for buffers against their opponents. The unification of Nepal and Bhutan with lands gathered from India and the EASU have created the archaic Himalayan Kingdom; Myanmar is ruled by the military class, a move favoured by Japan; Brunei is a fabulously wealthy Islamic kingdom especially welcomed by the Turks, and the nomadic Golden Khanate is especially a geopolitical landmine for the shared aspirations of Comniform and the EASU. Overall, the dynamism, power, and unity by the CAP has the West in fear for a nasty global war.

3) European Union and Its Overseas Territories (Deep Sky Blue):

The third most powerful Sovereign, with more civil and political liberties than even ally NASO, though not as militarily or economical powerful as its rivals. The anchor of the world for centuries, though its duties have been taken over by NASO led by the United States, for it to focus on its own internal and perimeter problems in the last two. Yet it is still influential in its own right, and balanced and dynamic like its neighbour west of the Atlantic. Officially secular, it is a multicultural zone, holding many kinds of faith and cultural practices common to many Western countries. It has been of some concern to bulk up its military capabilities to keep the Soviets at bay, or prevent absorption by the Germans altogether. One particular victory is with Poland's acquisition of Kaliningrad and area from the newly-emerged NSC in 2078, and maintaining a positive buffer zone in Eastern Europe to defend against a potential Soviet invasion. Not as diligent in combat as NASO, the EU wants to achieve more diplomatic and trade-based solutions for maintaining peaceful relations with its neighbours to the south and east. Despite its economic prosperity and freedom, much uncertainty remains about its stability, and the protection of its members from unwanted attention from the Germans and Yugoslavia, from which Albania was taken into the latter. The Europeans fear war more than any other of the Sovereigns, perhaps only surpassed by the NAC in this regard.

4) Comniform (The New Soviet Confederacy, People's Federation of Yugoslavia, Cuba, Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Colombia [Red]):

The red colouring on your maps in school instantly give away the leading communist authority of the world - Comniform. Once thought extinct back in the late 1980s and early 1990s, over the 21st and 22nd centuries, communism has made a gradual and even-stronger-than-ever comeback onto the world geopolitical scene. Once Russia had been fragmented to medieval levels in the early 2020s, it was made stagnant by oligarchs and all hopes for future federations were presumably lost. Yet, small but powerful groups of individuals came into power, and gradually absorbed their broken homeland and swapped territories into their hands lost long ago. After the times of oligarchs and corruption, capitalism was disregarded and a communist mentality was pushed towards those in society from all walks of life. It is now fiercely watchful of any move made by its Western and CAP counterparts, though continues to establish heavily regulated trade with them nonetheless.

Yugoslavia came back from the grave as well, with socialism included. After time spent fragmented by the EU and Turkey, dealing with many ethnic troubles, the Balkan states looked to foreign solutions and found results in the methods that build up the NSC. The long-awaited unification of the Yugoslavs provided many reactions from its neighbours, from praise by the Soviets, caution by the EU, and revulsion from the Germans, in which Yugoslav troops have been deployed to mediate border disputes against. Comniform's Latin American members suffer from instability between rival groups within their countries, though they are grateful to be relieved by support from Cuba, and the NSC and PFY.

Despite maintaining strictly regulated command-and-control economic systems, there is allowance for the market in these countries, as along as the vendors provide products and services beneficial for the people they serve. Freedom of the press and religion is highly suppressed however in these countries, in their minds for society to progress and for socialism to be the faith and rock of all, not "superstitious savagery." Comniform as a combined unity has earned a GPD that can match NASO, though heavily spends in promoting its ideology worldwide, being internationalist in nature.

5) East Asian Socialist Union (EASU [Maroon]):

China, like Russia, in the 2020s, faced terrible fragmentation. As decades progressed, Japan started taking land for economic gain, and what was taken from Russia provided no support for China economically. Starting in the late 2090s, China's economic and central stability were coming back to life, and thus would re-emerge upon the world stage by the 2130s. Instead of finding ways to solely increase business, China would focus on its own infrastructure and create massive urban and mining development projects in the once-uninhabitable western part. When China was in full power, it too would be inspired to implement the Soviets' centralized socialist system. Other nearby socialist nations, like those in Southeast Asia, had been struggling as well and became provinces of China to help preserve and improve their current conditions - thus the East Asian Socialist Union had been born.

The EASU is very similar to its closest and warmest ally, Comniform, in regards to political, cultural, and economic practices. Not as internationally-minded as Comniform, it seeks to fervently protect its borders from one of the CAP, Japan, and its nuisance satellite states, in which it funds local pro-communist, anti-CAP resistance militias operating in enemy territory. The EASU maintains hostility towards the West, but does not care about where its goods are shipped to those besides Comniform, for it needs the input to keep up with a rapidly changing world. Still, the EASU maintains hold in the communist domination of the East.

6) Grand Western Caliphate (GWC [Purple]):

This region is nicknamed the "Sandbox Kingdom" by foreigners, and is one-half of Imperial Africa. Established from its headquarters in North Africa, its sole purpose of establishment is to unify Muslim Africa into a large mega-state to promote good impressions (and thus trade and support) from nearby Osmanatolia, and to form a coalition military force against the West and its arch-nemesis the United African Chiefdoms (UAC), should they come knocking for a fight. It has declared itself an Islamist entity, thus much of its society is influenced by religion. Not producing much quality equipment of its own, it trades primarily with the CAP in the exchange of valuable natural resources for the funding of buying military equipment. The region is not as internally stable and politically organized like the previous Sovereigns profiled, but it is still substantially better off than its southern enemy, the UAC. It is constantly afraid of Comniform or Western incursions, for its traditions could most likely perish if their modernity had its way.

An extensive chain of command is set forth by local kings, up towards provincial sultans onto the true leaders, the Cabal of Imams, with their location kept top-secret for well-held security concerns. The GWC has been known to be in the process of developing giant, sand-burrowing automatons for its military inventory, modelled after scorpions. The region seeks to not only allow Islam to take over Africa, but to spread Islamic culture and its own reaches across the globe, though this is doubtful to assume, especially when dealing with the overwhelming power of NASO, Europe, and the CAP, especially Osmanatolia.

7) United African Chiefdoms (UAC [Lime Green]):

The least stable and prosperous of the Eight Sovereigns, and the other half of Imperial Africa. Order and unity simply consists of loose bands of tribes that share common nationalism and preserving of local social structures against unwanted outside forces. This region has been noted to house some of the best jungle-oriented guerilla forces in the world. Yet, many of these tribes occasionally succumb to internal fighting, with the impression of some sort of feudalist setting.  However, they can achieve and combine alliances to fight off the GWC to the north, and "traitor" South Africa. The majority of Bantu languages spoken by those in the UAC could show its surprising unity as well.

Their economy is sustained by heavy trade of natural resources, like many types of fruit, lumber, and precious minerals. Questions of mismanagement often arise regarding to that matter, though many in the UAC are eager for the great profit from trading with international customers. As mentioned before, there is no centralized or webbed model of authority in UAC lands - simply local chiefs that come together, or tear each other apart - when trouble arises. Intricate war-dances give soldiers blessings before battle, something that amazes or plainly baffles the outside observer. Fortunately, the UAC is on good terms with both the West and Comniform, often accepting military equipment provisions for self-defense purposes and NGO-sponsored services for impoverished locals.

8) Non-Aligned Committee (NAC [Dark Green]):

Led by Switzerland and the Papal Territories, the NAC is a recent, self-made Sovereign that seeks to maintain peaceful, neutral relations with all other Sovereigns, for in their mind it would lead to better-off trade and diplomacy, though taking a pledge of not holding back to defend oneself from aggression if such happens. The NAC, not intentionally quarrelsome like the NASO/Comniform feud, seeks to form buffers around opposing nations as a means for the sake of stability and peace, for itself and others than themselves - so in a sense, a defense-based solution to conflict.

Made up of various developed and lesser-developed nations, the NAC puts emphasis on focus on its own issues rather than intrude on the business of others. It is an international movement, stretching from a good portion of South America to Oceania. They seek to find common ground upon one another despite their differences, and achieve equal standing and solidarity amongst the other Sovereigns. The NAC are the go-to observers and potential mediators of the world's events, seen as the true inheritor of the United Nations.

*EXTRA* - The Black Zones (Somalia, No Man's Land [formerly Afghanistan; Black]):

The uninhabitable parts of the world, wracked by war and destruction, dangerous denizens (human and non-human alike) and overall wastelands that divide surviving powers. No rational person would think of invading these nations, as one should expect to be torn apart before stepping beyond their borders. As a result, some of the hardiest criminals that evade the law in their home countries come to these lands to stake their freedom despite being surrounded by peril. No farms, no hunting, and no cities exist in these lands, as it would be next to useless to support structured settlements in these zones of chaos.

The Black Zones often hold graveyards of military equipment, sought by many terrorist and dissident groups for personal use, and thus run great risks when going on quests to reap the rewards. Abandoned half-human/half-animal supersoldiers and inbred militias stalk the caves and barren plains and ghost towns, starving for any sort of meat whatsoever. Access is banned by almost all commercial or state-owned airlines worldwide. These are not tourist destinations indeed!

I'm sceptic towards the name of Osmanatolia. Why would someone name a country after a fallen dynasty?

All present royalty of Europe, due to breeding, are technically Mohammedan descendants.

I'm talking specifically about the Ottomans, not about any dynsaty. Also that's nonsense, the Windsors and the Oldenburgs for example are definitely not of muslim descent.

Due to the small pool of breeding royalty have, they are.

archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com…

Though that would help a claim for the Grand Western Caliphate, than the new Ottoman state, true, but due to the small pool of acceptable mates that can produce legitimate heirs, (all of us are probably descended from a king somewhere and all US presidents are from Edward II of England, but obviously all illegitimate) I wouldn't be surprised if during the 500 odd years of Ottoman rule various princesses and small lady nobility entered European lines.

Hey, in such modern, futuristic times, there would definitely be a Turkish, Arabic, or South Asian-descended Sultaness, instead of always males.

Maybe. Who knows? Perhaps a new clan will emerge and take the Osman name for their own regime.
